Backup & Recovery
Accidentally Deleted a File: What Should I Do?
Act quickly if an important business file is accidentally deleted.
- Applies to
- BIAS clients
- Estimated time
- 5 minutes
- Last updated
First checks
- Check the Recycle Bin or Trash.
- Check whether the file exists in the application's recent files.
- If the file is stored in a cloud collaboration platform, check its recycle or deleted-items area where appropriate.
Do not recreate files in the same location unnecessarily
If data recovery may be required, avoid unnecessary changes to the affected storage location.
Request a restore
Submit a BIAS support request and provide:
- file name;
- original folder/location;
- approximate date and time it was deleted;
- last known date when the file was correct;
- computer or server involved.
Important
The ability to restore a file depends on the backup service, retention period and storage location configured for your organization.
A file being stored on a computer or cloud service does not automatically mean that it is included in a BIAS-managed backup.
